Did you know that Biarritz has two lakes? Just a stone’s throw from the town centre, Lake Marion, covering twenty hectares, five of which are lakes, is a bucolic stopover dedicated to leisure activities and family walks. As for Lake Mouriscot, a protected natural area partially classified as “Natura 2000”, with a surface area of 110 hectares, it is a popular place for walks of exceptional environmental quality. The little-known Chemin des Lacs links the two sites, an 8 km circuit which starts at the bends in the Plage de la Milady to join Lake Marion and then the Mouriscot lake as far as the Cité de l’Océan. Two 5 km variants within this circuit allow you to choose either the lakeside or the beach side.

Dedicated to the Mexican black Virgin Our Lady of Guadalupe, this charming chapel, classified as a Historic Monument, was built in 1864 at the request of Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III. Its interior, with walls painted and covered with Andalusian azulejos, is both astonishing and remarkable. This architectural jewel, often unknown to some Biarrots, is worth a visit. The visit is commented on opening days, and guided tours of the building and its garden have also been offered since this year. The 100th anniversary of Eugenie’s death will be commemorated this summer with an exhibition at the Biarritz Historical Museum. The crampottes are the typical small houses with coloured shutters, lined up in the Port des Pêcheurs. They are used to store fishing equipment and are rented by the town to the owners of boats moored in this small port which has retained its picturesque character. Some of them house very popular restaurants. The most pleasant thing is to come on foot, or why not, by electric bicycle? As well as being available from the usual rental companies, some of them have recently been made available for self-service in various places in the town for the price of 2 euros per hour.
